PENN STATE UNIVERSITY
Graphic Design for Online Course
This course was so much fun to work on! It all began by meeting with the instructional designer (ID) assigned to the Marketing course, MKTG 301, Principles of Marketing. We began the project with a meeting to discuss some of the ideas both the ID and the faculty member had. The first steps for designing the visuals included brainstorming a color palette and appropriate fonts.
Graphics were often designed to support the written content provided by the professor. As most of us know, great visuals help explain ideas and concepts better (and faster) than just plain text.
I designed many graphics during the creation of this course but some of my favorites are the following:
During the design of the course, the instructor thought it would be great if we could add interviews with experts who work in the field. She asked if I'd be willing to assist with the recordings and, of course, I jumped right on board! We decided to use Zoom (pre-everyone-using-Zoom-days) to record the interviews. We didn't use video at that time as she wanted them to be more like audio podcasts.
We met on Zoom and I recorded the interviews while she interviewed the experts. I was then responsible for editing the audio, designing thumbnails, and getting them into the course. This eventually turned into an entire channel used to help promote the program to local high schools.
